Pitru Paksha 2020: Ashtami Shradh date, muhurat, & other details

According to the Hindu calendar, Pitru Paksha is a 16-day lengthy duration when Hindus pay homage to their ancestors, most commonly thru meals choices. The duration starts from Pratipada (the primary day) of the month of Ashwin and ends with the no moon day referred to as Sarvapitri Amavasya or Mahalaya.
Hindus believe Pitru Paksha to be inauspicious and given the dying ceremony carried out all over the rite, which is referred to as Shraddha or Tarpana. Pitru Paksha has been referred to as more than a few names — Pitri Pokkho, Solah Shraddha (16 shraddhas), Kanagat, Jitiya, Mahalaya Paksha, and Apara Paksha.
